Beauty is in the eye of the BEER - holder ?
It intrigues me as to why people have this common perception
that they are expected to look a certain way in order to "fit in" with society.
We all would really love to believe this quaint saying,
"beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
but how true is that phrase when the beholder has been brainwashed,
so to speak,
into subscribing to the belief that beauty is the artificial look we see on glamour mags or in TV ?
For some time now,
that image has consisted mainly of white voluptious women
or
half naked sweaty glistering tanned caucasion men and
eventually,
set the "white standard of beauty".
We also know that symmetry is inherently attractive to the human eye.
So a package (the whole body) can seem beautiful simply because of the similarity between its left and right sides.
But i guess,
it all comes down to how one feels inside about themselves.
Unfortunately,
there is the viscous cycle of doubt that people constantly face
so it's often hard to reconcile your inner voices with the outside images thrown at you everyday.
Many would buy into the trends and fashions that dictate beauty.
Female femininity and morbid beauty became formulaic due
to all the TV shows abound with images of heavenly-looking models.
Fitness clubs persuade people to join not so they will lower their risk of heart disease
but so they will aspire to be beautiful on the outside.
No one sell things that will help them on the inside.
Wait..using 'no one' is probably an exaggeration.
Maybe..not many people even attempt to.
In the end,
you can look at all of this and
say that there will always be standards of beauty
and those who aspire to live up those standards
and those wanting to make a profit off those standards.
The media portrays what people want to see and
apparently,
it's sex and "beauty".
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ?
It depends.
But i still choose to believe
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever"
